Hand-held Mirror with Brass Frame | Aranmula Kannadi
The famous 'Aranmula Kannadi' mirror is made in Aranmula village In Kerala State, India by the traditional craftsmen. The mirror is not made of glass but with bell metal and this is a unique art which is not found anywhere else in the world.
The Aranmula Metal Mirror is a unique object, mysterious in its creation unequalled in its beauty. Its creation is a closely guarded secret, known to a few families in Aranmula.The mirrors have received a geographical indication (GI) tag in 2004-05.
The British Museum in London has a 45m tall Aranmula metal mirror in its collection.
The mirror is 100% handmade and no machines are used for the making. Even a very small mirror can take up to 3-4 days to finish its basic shape. Additional days are needed to perfect the polish and to add the required art work to enhance and complete the artwork
